Station

Name

Each station name in a configuration must be assigned a unique name. This can be
up to 17 characters and cannot include spaces. Generally, the station is assigned
the same name or number the host computer uses, however, this is not required.
Any naming convention can be used as long as each name is unique.

Default

Host

This field represents the host port the station connects to when the unit is powered
on. A valid destination must be entered for the station to successfully make a
connection.

Options

The device on this port has several options that can be set or reset depending on
the way that device is to be used in the network. These options are described
below.

Option A - Automatic connection on power on

Setting this option causes a connection request to be sent automatically to the
Default Name when the device on this port comes on-line. If the request is
accepted, data exchange may begin. If the request is refused, a new connection
request is sent each time the connect timeout occurs until the request is accepted.
See page 165 for further information.

Option B - Don't send status message

Setting this option prevents the communications platform from issuing the defined
service messages on this port. Normally, this option would be set when the service
messages would interfere with the operation of the device. See page 167 for further
information.

Option C - Reserved channel

Setting this option prevents the communications platform from ever allowing the
Send command to be used to send a message to this station. This prevents
unwanted messages from appearing within a printout or file transfer operation. See
page 168 for further information.

Option D - Sharable

Setting this option indicates that the communications platform should automatically
connect the device on this port to any host or station attempting to send data to it.
This is usually used for output-only devices, and must not be used when the
Device Type parameter is set to Host. See page 168 for further information.

Option E - Send CR on input

Setting this option causes the communications platform to send a CR to the device
on this port when the end of an input message is detected. This option must not be
used if the device type parameter is set to Host.

Option F - Keep message

Setting this option instructs the communications platform to save any message
from the logical connection when the device on this port goes off-line. This
message is kept until the device comes on-line again, after which it is transmitted.
See page 173 for further information.
