Listen mode.

Each command string sent to the 4500B
requires a terminating signal or character. The
preferred practice is to use the EOI (End or
Identify) signal from the controller. The bus
controller sends the EOI signal with the last
character of each string. The 4500B will
always respond to the EOI signal, either alone

or in combination with a special character.

Some legacy controllers and equipment
cannot generate or respond to the EOI signal.
In this case, a special character, usually the
ASCII line feed (LF) or carriage return (CR)
is used. The EOI signal may also be used in
combination with special characters.

Select ―EOI only‖ whenever possible. If
necessary for compatibility with older
equipment, use ‖LF‖ or ―CR‖ as required.

Each data string returned by the 4500B requires a terminating signal or
character. The preferred practice is to send the EOI (End or Identify)
signal with the last character of each string.

Some legacy controllers and equipment cannot generate or respond to
the EOI signal. In this case, a special character, usually the ASCII line
feed (LF), carriage return (CR) or (CRLF or NL) is used. If necessary,
the user can suppress the EOI signal when a special character(s) is
used. See ―EOI on Talk‖ below. If used, the EOI signal is true with the
last character returned.
