This completes the Calibration exercise. When you have accomplished these steps, the instrument‘s zero level will
be properly adjusted, the sensor will be calibrated, the calibrator must be manually turned on and a pulsed waveform
display will appear. The instrument will be ready for the practice exercises presented in the next subsection.



3.6 Practice Exercise for Pulse Power Measurements


In the following exercises you will practice adjusting the display settings and pulse train parameters to become
familiar with the Model 4500B controls. Complete instructions for each control function are presented in Section 4
OPERATIO
N.

It is suggested that you review the front panel control conventions presented in Subsection 4.3 Menu Conventions
before proceeding.

Before beginning the exercise connect a sensor to the calibrator from channel 1. In the CALIBRATOR > menu set
the level to +5 dBm, set Cal Mode to ―Pulse‖, and turn the calibrator output "On".

CHAN

Press the CHAN function key and perform the following exercises to become familiar with the
items in the Chan 1 > menu. Continue to press the CHAN function key and the channels will be
sequentially selected, CH 2, Ext Trig 1, Ext Trig 2, CH Math, Mem 1, Mem 2 and back to CH1.


Chan 1 > Select

Press the Chan 1 > Selection key to open the Chan 1 > Chan Select > 1 of 2 channel selection
menu. The first page lists channels CH 1, CH2, Ext Trig 1, Ext Trig 2, CH Math and < -more->. If
the channel you seek is not listed, press the
Chan 1 > Chan Select > 1 of 2 <-more-> key. Chan 1 > Chan Select > 2 of 2 lists Mem 1,
Mem 2 and <-more->.

Note

There are 2 ways to locate a channel menu. The first is stepping through the list by repeatedly
pressing the CHAN function key. The second is by pressing the current Chan_ > Selection key to
obtain a menu of channels.



When CH Math is current in the Chan > Select window, those instruments equipped with the
optional Channel 2 will display the difference between the signals applied to Channels 1 and 2.
Use the Chan (CH Math) > Expression window to set the operation of the (CH Math) display.

Use the CHAN function key or the Chan_ > Selection menu key to re-select
CH 1 before proceeding.



Chan 1 > Channel

Press the Chan > Channel menu key to toggle the CH 1 display ―Off ―and ―On‖. The waveform
should disappear and reappear. (Leave it ―On‖.)
