If the retort has a build up of salt precipitate from formalin or other fixatives that you cannot

remove by wiping, run a retort acid clean (7.5 Retort Acid Clean).

Check Reagent Levels

Ensure that all reagent bottles and wax chambers are filled to the two- or three-basket level

(depending on the reagent fill level setting for your instrument, on the Instrument settings

screen). Add more reagent or wax if required (see 5.4 Replacing Reagents).

Clean Top Surface

Use a lint-free cloth with 70% alcohol and, if necessary, the plastic scraper to clean the lids and

other surfaces on the top of the instrument. Ensure all wax is removed. Take special care that wax

does not go down the wax bath vent (see Figure 63).

Clean Touch-screen

Wipe the touch-screen (or touch-screen protector) with a lint-free cloth moistened with 70%

alcohol. Replace the touch-screen protector (if using) if necessary.

Lock the touch-screen before cleaning (see 6.2.2 Device Settings).

Never use abrasive cleaners or strong solvents on the touch-screen.
