Using the Instruction Classifier With the Adaptive Feature Classifier

Result Combination

The Instruction Classifier and the Adaptive Feature Classifier can be used in
combination. If both classifiers provide a confidence for a certain class and
document, the greater value will be used as the result. There is no need to define
instructions for every class if the AFC is able to classify the documents correctly.

Local Not-Flag

The results are combined differently in the case where the Instruction Classifier
returns a negative confidence value. If the confidence is less than -50%, a local Not-
Flag will be inserted as the result for the current class. In this special case only, the
Instruction Classifier will overrule the AFC and the common result for that class will
be 0%, regardless of the confidence returned by the AFC. The local Not-Flag is
indicated in the classification results by a special icon.

If the excluded class has additional child classes, they will also be excluded from the
classification result in accordance with the Propagated Not-Flag rule. Please see
“Hierarchical Evaluation and Other Classification Rules” for details about
classification rules.
