documents. For further details about document separation class settings see
Classification - Class Properties – Document Separation .

If document separation is not used, each loose page in the batch becomes a single
page document.

You generally activate document separation at the project level. For further details
see Project Builder User Interface - Project Settings Dialog Box – General Tab .

Ignore for separation
Use this option when document separation is activated for a project (by default it
is disabled), but you want to disable it for this class. If the option is not selected,
documents in this class will be separated, and several additional options become
available.

This class represents a

If the “First page” option is selected, a fixed page length can be set. By default,
the value for the fixed page length is 0 (zero), which means that the number of
pages is unlimited. For this case, all following unclassified pages are added to the
current document until a page is classified as the first page of another class.
If the option is set to a specific number of pages, all following pages are added to
this document, until the set number of pages is reached or unless a page is placed
in another class.

For example, suppose the page length is set to 3. During processing of a multi-
page document, if a page is classified as the first page of this class. Then a new
document is created, the first page added and the following two pages of the
document will be attached to this new document without classifying them. Then
the document is closed, consisting of three pages.

If “Middle page” or “Last page” is selected, then the list for “Corresponding first
page” is enabled, allowing the class for the middle or last page to be selected. If a
class is selected from the list, then a middle page is added to the current
document when the first page of the current document has been classified to the
selected class; otherwise, the current document is closed and the middle page is
added to a separate new document. If <none> is chosen, then the middle page is
always added to the current document.

Important

If you define a middle or last page for a first page, then the option

“Fixed page length” for the first page must be set to “0” (unlimited) as this
option has priority over other settings. If “Fixed page length” is set to 1 or higher,
then the settings for the middle or last page will never be taken into account as
for a fixed page length the pages are added without classifying them.
