Table Locator

The following sections describe the concept of the Table Locator and show how to
add and set up the locator.

Concept

The Table Locator finds data that appears on a document in the form of a table. One
Table Locator can find one table model.

Table models are defined in the project settings. No matter what the actual table in
the document looks like, it is always mapped to the current table model.

Most tables are found automatically, especially invoice tables

. All other tables are

either found automatically if keywords are provided for the table header, or they are
extracted using a line-by-line pattern specified by the user.

The automatic extraction of invoice tables requires a Format Locator that finds
monetary amounts on the entire document. Based on the results from this locator, the
Table Locator identifies the line items in the table.

For manual extraction, select one line item in the document and then select all the
values that are of interest in that line item.

Table Models and Global Columns

Invoices and other business documents frequently have a common set of tabular
columns with specific meanings such as quantity, unit price or description. A column
such as “Quantity” is not just a column with some arbitrary set of characters in each
cell, but rather has a deterministic numeric value that signifies the quantity of a line
item.

Many of these types of columns can be determined automatically by the Table
Locator, which has 12 predefined columns of this type.

An invoice table will be found if it has at least three columns: quantity, single price and total

price for an item.
