In the General area, adjust the properties of the zone as necessary. This area
shows the coordinates of the zones, and allows you to change them to exact
pixel values. The name of the zone can be changed in the edit field. The page
number can be set to specify the location of the zone in a multipage
document. You can also set the rotation of the zone snippet in steps of 90°, in
case the text on the document is rotated.

3

In the Background Removal area, select Enable if you want to remove
common background features from the zone. Note that background removal
has to be trained in the Advanced Zone Locator dialog before you can select
this option.

4

Click Test to see the cleaned image in the small snippet viewer. Click it a
second time to restore the original image.

5

In the Blank Out Regions area, specify regions within the zone that are to be
ignored during OCR. With this option, polygonal areas can be created or
labels within the zone can be wiped out. If background removal has been
enabled, and labels are present within the zone, Ascent Xtrata Pro
automatically suggests blank out regions. You can keep, change or delete

changed in the image snippet viewer. Click Delete to delete the currently
selected region.

unadjusted boundaries. This may be useful if the author of the form
disregarded preprinted zone boundaries. In this case the zones can be
dynamically adjusted to a certain extent to capture information that extends
outside the normal zone boundaries.

8

Click the Test button to see the effect of dynamic zone adjustment for the
currently selected snippet.

9

In the Profile area, select the OCR profile to be used for this zone. Click the
properties button to open the Profile Settings dialog. Click the advanced
button (“…”) to directly open the Project Settings dialog box Profiles tab to
add, edit or delete profiles.
