Configuration -WAN Access 5 Logical interface configuration
Fault analysis
Before troubleshooting the virtual interface template, check whether the virtual interface
template is applied to one of the following situations:
• Creating the VPN virtual access interface
• Creating the MP virtual access interface
• Creating the PPPoX virtual access interface
Then locate the fault according to specific applicable environment.
For troubleshooting of the VPN virtual access interface, refer to the Nortel Secure Router
8000 Series Configuration Guide - VPN.
The possible causes are:
• The VT has no IP address.
• When you are required to allocate addresses to the peer end, the VT is not configured
with IP address or address pool allocated for the peer.
• You configure PPP authentication incorrectly.
Troubleshooting procedure
Do as follows on the routers:
Step 1 Check whether the VT is configured with IP address by using the display interface
virtual-template command. If not, configure the IP address. Otherwise, PPP negotiation will
fail and the status of the virtual access interface cannot become Up.
Step 2 Check whether the interface is configured the IP address (or address pool) assigned to the peer
in the case that an IP address needs to be configured to the peer. If not, configure an IP
address. Otherwise, the status of the virtual access interface cannot become Up.
Step 3 If the PPP authentication parameters are configured improperly, for example, the peer is not
the client that the local router has defined. Modify the authentication parameters. Otherwise,
the PPP negotiation cannot succeed.
