6 PPP and MP configuration

Run the

display interface virtual-template

command to view status of a VT. For example:

<RouterB> display interface virtual-template

Virtual-TemplateO current state : UP

Line protocol current state :UP (spoofing)

Description : NORTEL, Nortel Series, Virtual-TemplateO Interface, Route Port

The Maximum Transmit Unit is 1500 bytes

Internet Address is 10.1.1.2/24

Link layer protocol is PPP

LCP initial, MP opened

Physical is None, baudrate is 64000 bps

QoS max-bandwidth : 64 Kbps

Output queue : (Urgent queue : Size/Length/Discards) 0/50/0

Output queue : (Protocol queue : Size/Length/Discards) 0/1000/0

Output queue : (FIFO queue : Size/Length/Discards) 0/256/0

Last 300 seconds input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

Last 300 seconds output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 drops

0 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 drops

Run the

display ppp mp

command to check binding information about an MP. For example:

<Nortel> display ppp mp

Bundle Multilink, 1 member, slot 6, Master link is Virtual-Template0:1

0 lost fragments, 0 reordered, 0 unassigned, 0 interleaved,

sequence 0/0 rcvd/sent

The bundled son channels are:

Serial6/0/0

6.7 Configuring MP authentication binding through the
VT

6.7.1 Establishing the configuration task

Applicable environment

To obtain broader bandwidth, you can bind multiple PPP links together into a VT.

The binding authentication includes:

User name authentication

Endpoint discriminator authentication

Username and endpoint discriminator authentication.

Currently, MP does not support binding the interfaces of different boards on a router. You can
only bind MP based on the user name.

When you authenticate the MP binding, the process contains two steps as follows:

The bound PPP interface must pass the PAP and CHAP authentication.

The authenticated object must find the corresponding VT according to the username. If

no VT corresponds to it, the binding cannot succeed.
