12 PPPoE configuration

Data preparation

To configure PPPoE, you need the following data:

The IP address of the virtual interface template is 10.111.10.1/24.

The PPPoE user name and the password are NE and nortel.

• The IP address realm is from 10.111.10.2 to 10.111.10.10.

Configuration procedure

Step 1

Create and configure a virtual template.

<Router> system-view

[Router] interface virtual-template 1

[Router-Virtual-Template1] ip address 10.111.10.1 255.255.255.0

Step 2

Configure the PPP authentication mode of the virtual template as CHAP.

[Router-Virtual-Template1] ppp authentication-mode chap

Step 3

Configure the address pool for the peer interface to assign IP addresses

[Router-Virtual-Template1] remote address pool 1

[Router-Virtual-Template1] quit

Step 4

Add a PPPoE user named "NE".

[Router] aaa

[Router-aaa] local-user NE password simple nortel

Step 5

Configure the address pool with the number 1, including nine IP addresses to be allocated.

[Router-aaa] ip pool 1 1.1.1.2 1.1.1.10

[Router-aaa] quit

Step 6

Configure PPPoE parameters on the Router

[Router] interface ethernet 1/0/0

[Router-Ethernet1/0/0] pppoe-server bind virtual-template 1

[Router-Ethernet1/0/0] quit

When you install with PPPoE client software and configure with username and password
(here NE and nortel respectively), every host on the Ethernet can access the Internet through

the router with PPPoE and is assigned an IP address in the range of 10.111.10.2 to

10.111.10.10.

After configuring with the preceding parameters, you can also configure the Nortel router
with AAA/RADIUS parameters. This enables the system to perform accounting. For detailed

configuration procedures, refer to the Nortel Secure Router8000 Series Configuration Guide -

Security.
