6 PPP and MP configuration

Nortel Secure Router 8000 Series

Configuration -WAN Access

The system view appears.

Step 2 Run:

aaa

The AAA view appears.

Step 3 Run:

local-user user-name password { simple | cipher } password

The command adds the user name and password of the authenticated into the local user list.

Step 4 Run:

quit

Return to the system view.

Step 5 Run:

interface interface-type interface-number

The interface view appears.

Step 6 Run:

ppp authentication-mode chap [ pap ]

[ call-in ]

Authentication mode is configured as CHAP.

Using the

ppp authentication-mode chap pap command, you can perform CHAP

negotiation preferentially in LCP negotiation.

If the peer does not support the CHAP authentication mode, you can perform PPP negotiation.

If none of the two authentication modes is supported, the negotiation fails.

Step 7 Run:

ppp chap user user-name

The command configures the local user name.

Step 8 Run:

restart

The command restarts the interface.

NOTE

If the user name and the password changes, use the restart, shutdown or undo shutdown command
under the interface view to validate the configuration.
