2 Serial interface configuration

Nortel Secure Router 8000 Series

Configuration -WAN Access

The system view appears.

Step 2 Run:

interface serial interface-number

The serial interface view appears.

Step 3 Run:

mtu mtu

The command configures the MTU.

The MTU of the synchronous interface involves the packet reassembling and disassembling
on the interface.

By default, the MTU of a serial interface is 1500 bytes.

CP

NOTE

When the configuration is complete, first run the shutdown command to disable the interface and then
run the undo shutdown command to restart the interface to ensure that the configuration takes effect.

Because the queue of QoS is limited in length, excessive fragments and packet loss results if

the MTU is too small to hold the packet. To avoid this situation, make the queue longer.

FIFO schedules the queue by default. You can run the

qos fifo queue-length command for

such kind of adjustment. For details about the QoS queue, refer to the

Nortel Secure Router

8000 Series Configuration Guide - QoS.

2.2.9 Configuring the parity bit

Do as follows on the routers:

Step 1 Run:

system-view

The system view appears.

Step 2 Run:

interface serial interface-number

The synchronous serial interface view appears.

Step 3 Run:

crc { 16 | 32 }

The parity bit of the synchronous serial interface appears.

CQ NOTE

On the SR8000, only the channelized synchronous serial interface on the high-speed interface card

supports the crc command, and the other synchronous serial interfaces do not support configuring the

length for the CRC check word.

When configuring the length for the CRC check word of the synchronous serial interface,

ensure that the configurations on the devices of both ends are consistent.
