6 PPP and MP configuration

Nortel Secure Router 8000 Series

Configuration -WAN Access

Step 1

Check the CHAP configuration on two routers. If the user names of the server and the client

are the same, modify them to be different. In the SR8000, run the

display interface

command

to check the CHAP configuration.

Step 2

After modifying the CHAP configuration, restart the interfaces. In the SR8000, run the

shutdown

command and the

undo shutdown

command, or use the

restart

command in the

interface view.

6.13.4 MP configured through the VT works abnormally

Fault description

As shown in Figure 6-5,

Router C binds the three sub-channels of Serial1/0/0:0-2 to the VT11 through the

ppp mp

virtual-template 11

command.

Router B binds the three sub-channels of Serial1/0/0:0-2 to the VT11 through the

ppp mp

virtual-template 11

command.

Router A binds the six sub-channels of Serial1/0/0:0-2 and Serial1/0/1:0-2 to the VT11

through the

ppp mp virtual-template 11

command.

After configuration, the MP cannot work normally.

Fault analysis

The possible causes are:

Physical interfaces are bound into one MP in different modes.

Different interface boards or different interfaces are bound into one MP.

Number of bound physical interfaces in VT for interworking at two ends is different.

Many physical interfaces are bound in one local VT. The peer interfaces directly
connected to those physical interfaces have been bound into two or multiple VTs.

The six sub-channels are on an interface board, if direct binding to VT is adopted, the system

regards that the six sub-channels are bound to an MP. Actually, three sub-channels are

connected to Router C, and the other three ones are connected to Router B, which accords

with the fourth situation, and so the MP cannot work normally.

Troubleshooting procedure

Do as follows on the routers:
