10 Low-speed ATM configuration

10.12.3 Example for configuring PPPoA

Networking requirements

As shown in Figure 10-5, you dial two hosts into ATM network through ADSL Router

respectively. The hosts communicate with the router through DSLAM.

The WAN port of the router and DSL interface of the ADSL router use the PPPoA application

mode. You use the Password Authentication Protocol (PAP) to authenticate the access to the
ADSL Router.

The remote Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA) server on the other side of

the router (not included in the following figure) provides the IP address of ADSL Router.

Configuration roadmap

The configuration roadmap is as follows:

1.

Create the user for the PPP authentication.

2.

Create the virtual interface template for multiple users on routers.

3.

Configure the PAP authentication.

4.

Create the PVC and specify the PVC to bear PPP.

Data preparation

To configure PPPoA, you need the following data:

In the PPP authentication, the user name and the password are userl and pwd1, user2 and
pwd2.

The local address pool number and address realm are 1 and 202.38.162.1/24 -
202.38.162.100/24.

The IP addresses of two virtual interface templates are 202.38.160.1/24 and
202.38.161.1/24.

VPI/VCI of two PVCs between routers and DSLAM are 0/60 and 0/61 that point to
ADSL Router A and ADSL Router B respectively.
