Data preparation

To connect LANs through the private line, you need the following data:

#

The IP addresses of each interface and the VC number is shown in Figure 8-6.

#

Router A works in the DCE mode.

#

Router B works in the DTE mode.

Configuration procedure

Step 1

Configure Router A.

# Encapsulate the interface with FR.

<RouterA> system-view

[RouterA] interface serial 1/0/0

[RouterA-Serial1/0/0] ip address 202.38.163.251 255.255.255.0

[RouterA-Serial1/0/0] link-protocol fr

[RouterA-Serial1/0/0] fr interface-type dce

[RouterA-Serial1/0/0] fr dlci 100

[RouterA-fr-dlci-Serial1/0/0-100] quit

# Configure dynamic address mapping if the opposite router supports reverse address

resolution function.

[RouterA-Serial1/0/0] fr inarp

# Otherwise, configure static address mapping.

[RouterA-Serial1/0/0] fr map ip 202.38.163.252 100

Step 2

Configure Router B.

# Encapsulate the interface with FR.

<RouterB> system-view

[RouterB] interface serial 1/0/0

[RouterB-Serial1/0/0] ip address 202.38.163.252 255.255.255.0

[RouterB-Serial1/0/0] link-protocol fr

[RouterB-Serial1/0/0] fr interface-type dte

# Configure dynamic address mapping if the opposite router supports reverse address

resolution function.

[RouterB-Serial1/0/0] fr inarp

# Otherwise, configure static address mapping.

[RouterB-Serial1/0/0] fr map ip 202.38.163.251 100

Step 3

Verify the configuration.

Display the FR address mapping on Router B. In the following example, the FR interface
learns the peer DLCI through dynamic address mapping.

[RouterB] display fr map-info interface Serial 1/0/0

Map Statistics for interface Serial1/0/0 (DTE)

DLCI = 100, IP INARP 202.38.163.251, Serial1/0/0

create time = 2006/10/19 17:45:32, status = ACTIVE

encapsulation = ietf, vlink = 393229, broadcast
