packet that is to be sent back to the host. If there are no errors, the server and the host
enter the Phase of PPP Session.
12.1.3 Phase of PPP session
After the host enters the Phase of PPP Session, the PPP packets transmit to the peer as the
payload of PPPoE frames encapsulated in Ethernet frames.
You make the session ID to be the ID determined at the Phase of Discovery, while the MAC
address is that of the peer. The PPP packets begin with the protocol ID.
During this Phase, either the host or the server may send PPPoE Active Discovery Terminate
(PADT) packets to notify the other side to terminate this Session.
12.2 Configuring basic PPPoE functions
12.2.1 Establishing the configuration task
Applicable environment
Using PPPoE allows you to connect many hosts in one Ethernet to connect with the remote
server and set the PPP sessions with PPP to implement the access control and the accounting.
Preconfiguration tasks
Before configuring basic PPPoE functions, complete the following tasks:
• Configuring physical parameters for the Ethernet interfaces.
• Creating a virtual template (VT) and assigning IP address to it.
• Configuring the PPP authentication mode based on VT, either PAP or CHAP.
• Adding a local user (including the username and password) and assigning the user with
the address pool.
