6 PPP and MP configuration

Nortel Secure Router 8000 Series

Configuration -WAN Access

Step 3

Run:

local-user user-name password { simple | cipher } password

The command adds the user name and password of the authenticated into the local user list.

Step 4

Run:

quit

Return to the system view.

Step 5

Run:

interface interface-type interface-number

The interface view appears.

Step 6

Run:

ppp authentication-mode chap [ pap ]

[ call-in ]

The command configures the Authentication mode as CHAP.

Use the

ppp authentication-mode chap pap

command to implement the CHAP negotiation

before the LCP negotiation. If the CHAP is not supported by the peer end, the PAP negotiation

is carried out. If the authenticated does not support both the modes, the negotiation fails. This

does not mean that the two authentication modes are negotiated during one PPP negotiation.

Step 7

Run:

restart

The interface is restarted.

If the local user name and password configured in local AAA user list are consistent with

those configured on the interface of the peer, the authentication succeeds.
