Glossary

A

Actual ratio

Actual gearbox ratio resulting from the ratio of the motor speed to the maxi-

mum speed of the application.

Additional drive element

A dedicated gearbox or a downstream ratio to the gearbox.

B

Base process power

Product of the max. torque and max. speed.

Braking during operation

Repeated braking from full speed, preferably used for uncontrolled drives.

Brake chopper

Electrical brake unit, additionally requiring an external brake resistor.

Brake module

Electrical brake unit, combining the brake chopper and brake resistor in one

drive.

Braking unit

Generic term for brake module and brake chopper.

C

Continuous braking power

Power that can be continuously dissipated by the brake system.

Continuous power

Power that can be dissipated by the inverter in continuous operation if a

standard useful life is required.

Continuous rated curve

Thermal characteristic curve for continuous operation.

D

Derating

Decrease of rated values under specific preconditions.

Disengagement time

Time from the start of the release of the mechanical brake to the decrease to

10 % of the rated torque.

Drive analysis
Drive end

Side to which a motor is attached.

E

Energy efficiency
Energy Performance Certificate
Electrical supply conditions

Mains voltage, mains frequency, supply form, and number of phases.

Engagement time

In the case of mechanical brakes is composed of the delay time t

11

when the

brake is activated and the rise time t

12

of the braking torque.

F

Feedback energy

The regenerative energy to be received by the brake resistor.

G

Group drive

Several identical motors are supplied by one drive controller and together

power an application.

G+K

Series connection of a Lenze gearbox and an additional drive element.
G: Lenze gearbox

K: Additional drive element
