Establishes a Telnet session to a remote networking device.
Synopsis
telnet {IP Address | hostname} [port-number port]
Operands
IP Address
The server IP address in either IPv4 or IPv6 format.
hostname
The host name (a string between 1 and 63 ASCII characters in length).
port-number port Specifies the port number in the remote device to connect to. Valid values
range from 0 through 65535. For the connection to succeed, a TCP server
must be listening for client connections at the specified port.
Defaults
Port 23
Command Modes
Privileged EXEC mode
Description
Use this command to establish a Telnet session from a switch to a remote networking device.
Usage Guidelines
The following features are not supported:
•
Display Telnet sessions
•
Ability to terminate hung Telnet sessions
Examples
To establish a Telnet session from a switch to a remote networking device.
switch# telnet 10.17.37.157
