You can use a tremolo marking as a shorthand to represent repeated rhythmic figures . In the following examples, the

tremolo marks in the first measure are equivalent to the notes in the second measure

Single note tremolo / slashes Two-note tremolos / fingered tremolos / shakes

Single Note Tremolo - rhythmic shortcut slashes

1 . Ensure you are in Edit mode .
2 . To place the mark you want on your Music Cursor either:

Two-note / Fingered Tremolos (Shakes)

A tremolo between two alternating notes is a

or

shake

. This has a unique notation quirk: the

total duration of the tremolo is the count of one of the notes .

1 . Ensure you are in Edit mode .
2 . Enter two notes (or two chords) of the same duration . For a quarter note length tremolo for example, you will first

enter two eighth notes

shake

symbols (right-hand end, lower group) .

4 . Place your Music Cursor over the left note or in between the two notes
5 . Either click your mouse or press Enter .

» Notion adds the tremolo mark between the two notes and automatically adjusts the printed noteheads .

Playback of tremolos

Measured tremolos i .e . with one or two slashes/beams, will playback as repeated 8th notes or 16th notes respectively .

Unmeasured tremolos i .e . three slashes/beams, will trigger a tremolo sample for Notion’s built-in instruments

if

one exists

and is installed . If no sample can be found, then Notion will synthesize the unmeasured tremolo .
