Active Chatter Control ACC (option
145)

Application

This feature must be enabled and adapted by the

machine tool builder.
Refer to your machine manual.

Strong milling forces come into play during roughing (power

milling). Depending on the tool spindle speed, the resonances in

the machine tool and the chip volume (metal-removal rate during

milling), the tool can sometimes begin to “chatter.” This chattering

places heavy strain on the machine, and causes ugly marks on

the workpiece surface. The tool, too, is subject to heavy and

irregular wear from chattering. In extreme cases it can result in tool

breakage.
To reduce the inclination to chattering, HEIDENHAIN now offers

an effective antidote with

ACC

(

A

ctive

C

hatter

C

ontrol). The use

of this control function is particularly advantageous during heavy

cutting. ACC makes substantially higher metal removal rates

possible. This makes it possible to increase your metal removal rate

by up to 25 % and more, depending on the type of machine. You

reduce the mechanical load on the machine and increase the life of

your tools at the same time.

Please note that ACC was developed especially for

heavy cutting and is particularly effective in this area.

You need to conduct appropriate tests to ensure

whether ACC is also advantageous during standard

roughing.
When you use the ACC feature, you must enter the
number of tool cuts

CUT for the corresponding tool in

the TOOL.T tool table.
