is contained in the route information that the router acquired. Examine the

7.5.1.8

Inspection of Filtering/QoS Definition Information

Communication may be disabled even though no physical failure is found in this
router and the route information is correct. The filtering feature may have been
defined to filter the specified packet, or the packet may have been discarded by the
bandwidth control or queue control of the QoS function.

Inspect the configuration information to see if the filtering and QoS functions are
correctly defined, and ensure that the use of bandwidth control and queue control is
suitable to your applications. The following show you how to locate the filtering or
discarding of a packet.

(a) To Check for the Possibility that a Packet is Discarded by Filtering

1. Log in to this router.

2. Confirm if any packet is discarded at the input/output interface by the filtering

function using the

show filter-flow

command.

[Example]

Confirm if a packet has been discarded by filtering, where the input interface
name of the communication failed packet is tokyo1 and the source IP address of
the same packet is 170.10.11.10.

Step 1.

Login to this router.

Step 2.

Enter the

show filter-flow detail

command:

> show filter-flow detail

<Filter List No.>: 1

Using Interface:tokyo1/in

source ip :170.10.11.21 -170.10.11.30

forward packets : 461

<Filter List No.>: 2

Using Interface:tokyo1/in

drop packets : 50121

<Filter List No.>: 1

Using Interface:tokyo4/out

source ip :170.10.12.1 -170.10.12.254

forward packets : 3

>

Step 3.

Confirm that the input interface name is <Filter List No.> of tokyo1.

In the example described above, <Filter List No.>: 1,2 is applied.

Step 4.

Compare the flow conditions confirmed in step 3 with the contents of a
packet that cannot be communicated. Confirm that the operation of <Filter
List No.> in which the flow conditions match the contents is not discarded.

In this example, since the IP address from which a packet is transmitted is
170.10.11.10, it matches <Filter List No.>: 2. The operation of <Filter List
No.>: 2 is discarded, so the packet may be discarded by the band control of
an input interface’s filtering function.
