Assurance on ATM Line

[Example]

To assure the ATM line, enter the

show nif

(ATM) command from the device

management terminal as follows:

>

show nif 0 [CR]

The result will appear as Figure 8-38, which assumes that the NIF No. 0 is an NIF of
OC-3c/STM-1 ATM (multimode) and the corresponding line No. 0 is connected to an
applicable device, e.g., DSU or ATM switch. In this example the line is enabled
because of the following:

The subject NIF is operating normally (in this example, “NIF0: active”).

The subject line is operating normally (in this example, “Line0: active up”).

If the expected result does not appear and the line is not operating normally (“Line0:
active up” is not given), ensure the following:

Is the cable disconnected or loosely connected?

Is multimode cable used? (Is single-mode cable mistakenly used?)

Is startup of the connected device complete?
