(2) Loop Connector Loopback Test for ATM Line:

This test loops back the test frame at the loop connector connected to the NIF.
Before testing, disconnect the cable of the subject line number and replace it with
an applicable loop connector. Then, the testing can be executed by entering the

test interfaces

and

no test interfaces

commands from the device management

terminal. For example, to test line No. 0 of NIF No. 0, enter the command lines as
shown below:

> test interfaces nif 0 line 0 connector [CR]

(Wait about 1 minute.)

> no test interfaces nif 0 line 0 [CR

The result will appear in a similar manner as (a) internal loopback test for ATM
line. Make sure that “Send-NG” and “Receive-NG” are both 0 and “PHY layer
status” is “up” (normal).

Note: When “Line, clock” in the configuration information has been defined to “external” (default)

and the line is replaced with a loop connector, the resulting discontinuances of clock signal
from the line causes the NIF’s ACT lamp to turn off and LINE ERR lamp to turn on. This is not
an error; you can continue the testing. While testing, the target clock is changed to the
internal clock, and the router can send/receive the loopback packet. When “Line, clock” in
the configuration information has been defined to “independent” instead, this will not occur.
