Ver. 07-02

PIM-DM (Protocol Independent Multicast-Dense Mode)

A protocol like DVMRP capable of multicast route control without depending on
unicast IPv4 route structures that form the foundation. Unneeded routes are
eliminated after packets are sent.

PIM-SM (Protocol Independent Multicast-Sparse Mode)

A protocol like DVMRP capable of multicast route control without depending on
unicast IPv4 route structures that form the foundation. Communication is by the
shortest path after packets are sent to rendezvous points.

PIM-SSM (Protocol Independent Multicast-Source Specific Multicast)

An expanded PIM-SM function, it is a route control protocol communication by the
shortest path without using rendezvous points.

PPP over Ethernet client function (PPPoE)

A function for making connections using PPP on Ethernet. Using PPPoE makes it
possible to connect to NTT’s B Flets, Flets and ADSL service.

PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol)

A transfer protocol for serial line use capable of asynchronous connection.

PVC (Permanent Virtual Channel (Connection)/Permanent Virtual Circuit)

Communication path in physical lines

Parallel PVC

When communicating with multiple PVCs assigned between the device and remote
device, the multiple PVCs are referred to as parallel PVCs.

Partial mesh configuration

A network structure used in frame relays. When applied to communication between
center and offices, etc., and communication between offices has no communication
paths, it executes communication by return via the center. Since this makes it
possible to reduce the number of communication paths, charges can be reduced
when using public frame services, etc.

Physical port backup

A line backup method for connecting to the backup destination ISDN lines
subordinate to the same interface when the backup source line physical port is
disabled.

Policy

Indicates the policy of what business data to route with priority.

Policy interface data

Interface data defined by configuration definition data when transferring packets
based on policy routing. It defines policy group data of grouped interface data of
single or multiple policy interfaces.

Policy routing

A routing method in which packets are transferred to specific interfaces based on a
policy set by the user instead of following route data registered in the routing
protocol.
