is contained in the route information that the router acquired. Examine the
relevant function.

Filtering/QoS function

Go to (f) Inspection of FiItering/QoS Definition Information.

DHCP/BOOTP function

Go to (g) Inspection of DHCP/BOOTP Definition Information.

Multihome function

Go to (h) Confirmation of DHCP/BOOTP Relay Agent Function Data at
the Time of Multihome Setting
.

(f) Inspection of FiItering/QoS Definition Information

If communication cannot be performed despite the device having no physical
impediments and the route information having also been set correctly, it is possible
that the setting is such that the filtering function is stopping only the effected
packets or the packets are being discarded by the QoS function band control, output
priority control or abolishment control.

Therefore, confirm that the setting condition for the filtering function and the QoS
function for the configuration defining information are correct and that the band
control, output priority control or abolishment control in the system structuring is
appropriate in the system operation.

(g) Inspection of DHCP/BOOTP Definition Information

If unused IP addresses are remaining sufficiently, the failure cause may be wrong
DHCP/BOOTP setting in the configuration information. The procedures below shows
how to inspect the configuration information.

Step 1.

Ensure that the relay list shows the IP address of the DHCP/BOOTP server
or that of the neighbor router with DHCP/BOOTP relay agent function.

Step 2.

Ensure that the relay interface is defined to the interface on the client side.

Step 3.

Verify that the DHCP / BOOTP server’s IP address in which the IP address
intended to be leased to a client is registered to the relay list and that the
relay group registered in that relay list is set in the relay interface.

Step 4.

Ensure that the bootp hops value of the relay interface is correct when
viewed from the client.

(h) Confirmation of DHCP/BOOTP Relay Agent Function Data at the Time of Multihome
Setting

In the DHCP/BOOTP server, a lending IP address is selected from the IP address of
giaddr in a DHCP/BOOTP REQUEST packet.

In the router, the IP address that was lastly IP-defined in an interface is set to giaddr
in the DHCP/BOOTP REQUEST packet as a relay agent address when multihome is
set to a DHCP/BOOTP client connection interface.

The lending IP address to be handled cannot be identified by the DHCP/BOOTP
server if the "relay agent address" does not coincide with the "setting IP address of
the router to which a DHCP/BOOTP client is connected" when multihome is set to
the interface to which a DHCP/BOOTP client is connected. At that time, an IP
address cannot be lent to the DHCP/BOOTP client. In this case, execute a show dhcp
giaddr command and confirm that the output IP address coincides with the setting IP
address of the router to which the DHCP/BOOTP client is connected.
