Step 2.

Start the operation of NIFs:

Start the operation of each additionally inserted NIF by entering either of
the two commands shown below from the device management terminal. The
choice depends on the status of the subject RP.

When the RP to which the NIF is connected is operating, enter

free nif <NIF No.> [CR] (NIF No.: Target NIF number)

When the RP to which the NIF is connected is stopped, enter the following
command. The NIF will start operating at the same time when the RP starts
operation.

free rp <RP No.> [CR] (NIF No.: Target RP number)

Step 3.

Define the configuration information.

If necessary, define the configuration information in accordance with
GR2000 Configuration Settings
.

BCU Upgrade (Simplex to Duplex) While Power is Off

Figure 8-30 shows the steps for upgrading a simplex router to a duplex router by
addition of another BCU as a standby BCU while the power is off for maintenance or
periodical checkout. Details of each step follow the figure.

This subsection describes the steps for upgrading a simplex router to a duplex router
by addition of another BCU. Details of each step follow the figure 4-30.

Step 1.

Turn off the power of the router.

Step 2.

Add a new BCU as a standby BCU to the router.

See Subsection 8.3.2 Step 3.

WARNING: Hazardous voltage. Can cause death or severe injury. Removing/adding

component while power is on must be conducted by trained and qualified
engineer or maintenance personnel.

Turn off the power of the router.

Add a new BCU as a standby BCU to the router.

Register the CPU fan swap date and restart the device.

Change the operation mode of the device from simplex to

duplex by executing set mode command from the active side.
