Step 3.

A packet is discarded by queue control when the total number of discarded
frames (total discarded frames due to queue overflow) is more than one.

In this example, since the total number of discarded frames is 2375, a
packet is discarded by queue control.

7.5.1.9

Inspection of Null Interface Definition Information

When the packet is not discarded although communication to a specific network or
terminal is restricted by the Null interface, the Null interface configuration definition
may be incorrect. Ensure that the Null interface is correctly set up, in accordance
with the following procedure:

Step 1.

Using the

show interface ipv4-unicast

command, ensure that the Null

interface status is “up.”

Step 2.

Ensure that the Null interface is correctly defined to the current
configuration information.

Step 3.

Use the

show ip route

command to inspect the route information that this

device has obtained. Ensure that the static route information has been
correctly defined.

Step 4.

Using the

show ip interface

command, ensure that the packet is discarded on

the Null interface.

7.5.1.10

Inspection of Policy Routing Definition Information

When communication is disabled despite no physical failure in this router and the
correct route information, there is a possibility that a failure on the policy routing
output interface is causing packets to be discarded.

To check for such a possibility, follow the procedure below:

<Has the packet been discarded on the Null interface?>

Confirm the status of the Null interface by executing the

show ip interface ipv4-unicast command.

Confirm whether the setting is correct in the Null interface of the

operating configuration defining information.

Confirm the route information by executing

the show ip route command.

Confirm that the packet has been discarded on the Null interface

by executing the show ip interface command.
