Removing and Inserting of MC

Only the spare MC can be removed or inserted while the router is running. Note the
following. If you find you have mistakenly removed or inserted the master MC card
while the router is running, turn off and on the main power of the router to restart it.

(1) Make Sure the LED Indicating Access to the MC is Off.

This LED shows the MC access for the card slot. When you remove or insert the
spare MC card while the router is running, make sure that the LED is off (not
accessing the MC card). Otherwise, the MC card may be damaged.

(2) For Safer Removal and Insertion of the MC:

The router has mc disable command which prohibits MC card access. If this
command is entered, the router will not access the MC card until mc enable
command which cancels prohibiting the MC access. (Again, confirm that the LED is
off even after entering the command prohibiting the MC card access). For details of
these commands, see GR2000 Operations Commands, Vol. 1, set mc disable
command.

(3) After an MC Card is Pulled out and Inserted, Pay Attention to:

A command may not be executable when the working directory is set to a preliminary
MC card (for example, by executing a cd, mcl, usr, home, or operator command).
Move the working directory to the home directory using a cd command and then
execute the command again.

(4) Precautions for MC Insertion

Upon inserting a new MC into a spare slot, confirm that the MC has been identified
by using show mc and df commands. If the size of the applicable spare MC is
indicated as zero byte, the new MC is not mounted correctly. In this case, perform
the confirmation after a lapse of about 10 seconds. If the inserted MC cannot be
identified even after the reconfirmation, execute the "set mc disable," and then
remove and re-insert the MC.
