Removal of NIF while Power is On

Figure 8-25 shows the steps for removing the NIF while the power is on. Details of
each step follow the figure.

Step 1.

Delete pertinent configuration information:

If necessary, delete the configuration information pertinent to the target
NIF. See GR2000 Configuration Settings.

Step 2.

Cause the target NIF to stop operation:

Cause the target NIF to stop operation by entering the following command
from the device management terminal.

close [-f] nif <NIF No.> [CR] (NIF No.: Target NIF number)

Step 3.

Remove the target NIF:

Remove the target NIF board after confirming that its STATUS LED is lit
yellow. Confirm the target NIF’s STATUS LED color even when the RP to
which the NIF attaches is not operating. See the GR2000 Installation Guide
for the removal instructions.

8.4.2

Concurrent Upgrade of BCU, RP, and NIF (While Power is On)

This subsection describes the following concurrent upgrade methods:

How to upgrade a simplex (non-redundant) router to a duplex (redundant) router
by adding another BCU as a standby BCU while the power is on.

How to add RPs and NIFs to solve the rapid increase of connected lines while the
power is on.

For the installation position of each board and explanation of the LEDs, see the
GR2000 Installation Guide.

(1) Concurrent Upgrade from Simplex to Duplex by Addition of Standby BCU

Figure 8-26 shows the steps for upgrading a simplex router to a duplex router by
addition of another BCU as a standby BCU while the power is on. For the procedure
for swapping BCU encountering a failure etc., refer to Subsection 8.4.1, item 1.
Details of each step follow the figure.

WARNING: Hazardous voltage. Can cause death or severe injury. Removing/adding

component while power is on must be conducted by trained and qualified
engineer or maintenance personnel.

Delete configuration information pertinent to

the target NIF (as necessary).

Cause the target NIF to stop operation.

Remove the target NIF board.
