Field Current Configuration

DIP switch S14 on the drive’s control circuit board is factory set to the minimum
field current rating based on the drive size (see DIP Switch and Jumper Settings
on page

72

for S14 location). The configuration of this switch must be changed

to be greater than or equal to the rated field current specified on the motor
nameplate (unless a permanent magnet motor is being used) or possible motor
damage may result. In addition, the value selected with switch S14 must be
entered in parameter

374

[Drv Fld Brdg Cur] in the control software when the

drive is commissioned (see Drive Start Up on page

87

.)

Set DIP Switch S14 to the Correct Value

Complete the following steps to set switch S14 to the correct field current value.

1.

Locate and record the frame size and field supply amp rating listed on the
drive data nameplate (see Drive Nameplate Data on page

12

for location).

2.

Locate and record the rated field current value listed on the motor data
nameplate.

3.

For frame A, B, and C drives:

Use

Table 15

on page

61

to set switch S14 to be the equivalent or next

higher value as compared to the motor’s rated field current.

For frame D drives:

Use

Table 16

or

Table 17

on page

61

to set switch S14 to be the

equivalent or next higher value as compared to motor’s rated field
current.

Figure 34 - Example DIP Switch S14 Configuration

Note

: The configuration of switch S14 is not required if the motor’s field control

is provided via an external source (for example, a permanent magnet motor),
however, it is recommended that the switch settings be completed as described
above.

ATTENTION: DIP switch S14 must be set to a value that is greater than or equal
to the rated field current specified on the motor nameplate or possible motor
damage may result.

for a drive with a field supply amp rating of 20 A
and a motor with a rated field current less than or
equal to 17 A.
