Library content
The Library contains all effects, presets, fonts, and other content available in Motion. These items
are grouped into categories listed in the left sidebar. Choose any of these items to display a list
of subcategories in the right sidebar. The Library also contains two additional categories—Music
and Photos—that provide quick access to your iTunes and iPhoto libraries.
For information on adding Library content to your project, see
on page 182.
The Library contains the following categories:
•
Behaviors: Contains all behaviors, divided into individual subcategories. A behavior must be
attached to an image layer to have an effect. Some behaviors can only be applied to specific
objects. For example, Text Animation and Text Sequence behaviors can only be applied to text
objects. For more information, see
on page 297.
•
Filters: Contains all filter special effects, divided into individual subcategories. A filter must be
attached to an image layer to have an effect. Third-party FxPlug filters appear in the category
to which they belong. Most filters can be applied to any layer (text, images, shapes, footage,
particles, and so on) or mask in your project. For more information, see
page 741.
•
Generators: Contains a selection of checkerboards, noise patterns, color rays, animated text
objects, and other computer-generated elements for use in your projects. Generators can
be modified after you add them to your project. For more information, see
on page 709.
•
Particle Emitters: Contains a selection of preset particle systems organized into subcategories.
Particle emitters let you add effects ranging from simulations of smoke, fire, and explosives to
animated abstract textures that you can use in different ways. All premade particle systems
can be customized after you add them to your project. For more information, see
on page 516.
•
Replicators: Contains a selection of preset replicators organized into subcategories. Replicators
let you add background, transitional, or other types of animated patterns. All premade
replicators can be customized after you add them to your project. For more information, see
on page 563.
•
Shapes: Contains a collection of premade shapes that you can use as visual elements or as
image masks. Each shape is a Bezier shape and can be customized using Motion’s shape-
editing tools. For more information, see
Shapes, masks, and paint strokes overview
page 828.
•
Gradients: Contains a selection of preset gradients that can be applied to shapes, text, particles,
and replicators. For more information, see
on page 135.
•
Fonts: Contains all fonts available on your system. Fonts are organized into subcategories
based on the categories of fonts defined in the Font Book application. For more information
about Font Book, see OS X Help (in the Finder, choose Help > Help Center). For information,
see
on page 623.
•
Text Styles: Contains a collection of preset type styles that can be applied to text, changing
their style parameters. These style parameters include Face, Outline, Glow, and Drop Shadow.
Dragging a text style onto a text object instantly applies that style to the text. For more
information, see
on page 650.
•
Shape Styles: Contains a collection of preset shape styles that can be applied to shapes,
changing their style parameters. Dragging a shape style onto a shape instantly applies that
style. For more information, see
Shapes, masks, and paint strokes overview
on page 828.
