Closed: A checkbox that, when selected, connects the first and last points of an open shape. If
you select a closed shape in the Canvas, this checkbox is selected. Deselecting this checkbox
disconnects the first and last points, converting the object into an open shape.

Roundness: A slider that adjusts the roundness of shape corners. Use this control to create
rounded rectangles or to smooth the edges of any shape.

Preserve Scale: A checkbox that controls whether the Roundness setting is absolute or relative
to the overall shape size. When this parameter is enabled, the roundness will remain at the
same approximate percentage of curvature as the object is scaled. When it is disabled, the
curvature will vary as the overall shape changes size.

Control Points: A numbered list of control points comprising the selected shape, with value
sliders for modifying the position parameters of each control point in the shape. The Control
Points list also contains a single Animation menu (at the right of the Control Points header
row) that affects all the points, letting you add keyframes, reset the shape’s animation, display
the animation curve in the Keyframe Editor, and so on. For more information on using the
Animation menu, see

Animation menu

on page 449.

Shape controls in the HUD

After you create and select a shape or paint stroke, the Shape HUD appears.

Note: As with all other layers, you can adjust the overall opacity of a shape (with its outline) in
the Properties Inspector.

Additional parameters appear in the HUD along with standard Opacity, Blend Mode, and Drop
Shadow controls. For more information on these standard parameters, see

Parameters in the

Properties Inspector

on page 223.

Controls in the HUD

Fill: A checkbox that, when selected, enables the shape fill. Use the adjacent color controls to
select a fill color.

Outline: A checkbox that, when selected, turns on an outline for the shape. Use the adjacent
color controls to select an outline color.

Width: A slider that sets the width of the shape’s outline in pixels.

Feather: A slider that feathers (softens) the edges of a shape. Positive feathering values soften
the edge of the shape from its edge outward. Negative feathering values soften the edge of a
shape inward.
Note: You cannot feather a shape when the Outline checkbox is selected.
