kernel would be similar to the
Sobel X
examples in Figure 7.53 (page 7–64). The main difference is that the
Y Edge
kernel produces a wider gradient.
XY Edge Kernel
The
XY Edge
kernel is a Laplace–type kernel that performs nondirectional
spatial filtering functions that sharpen gradients lying along both the X–axis
and the Y–axis of the image. (Note that the effect is similar to that of the
Laplace
kernels, except that the
XY Edge
’s 5x5 kernel produces a wider
gradient than the
Laplace
’s 3x3 kernel.)
The coefficients in the
XY Edge
kernel are arrayed in a 5x5 matrix, as
follows:
