Figure 8.15 shows how the workpiece image in Figure 8.10 would appear
after being filtered by an appropriate choice of morphology operations.

Note that the
Binary Morph
panel selections shown in the example include,
from the top down, these filtering functions:
The first and second operations (
Erosion
) each remove some white noise
from the black background, but at the same time, decrease the white features’
size. The second and third operations (
Dilation
) each restore the white
features’ size without restoring the white noise in the black background.
Thus, the net cumulative effect of the four morphology filtering operations is
to remove the noise from the black background without affecting the size of
the white features.
