Changing Access Privilege Levels
The process for setting up a privilege change is the same as for changing
menu and button text fields. Thus, if the privilege level for “
File
” (see
Figure 12.11, page 12–12) is to be changed to include Level 6, the
Level 6
selector must be picked as shown by the example in Figure 12.12.

Note that initially
Level 8
is selected in the
Privilege
box, while in the
Privilege Bit Mask
section, only Bit 8 is a “1.” Together, these indicate that
by default only a person with a Level 8 access (the system administrator) has
access to “
File
” from the main menu bar.
When you pick the
Level 6
selector, Bit 8, Bit 7, and Bit 6 are all “1.” By
default, whenever you select a level below
Level 8
in the
Privilege
box, the
levels above will become (or remain) “1,” which means that the selected
level and all higher users will have Level 8 access (to “
File
” in the main
menu bar, in this case).
