Panel Layout and Functions

The

Discrete I/O Editor

panel shown in Figure 9.1 (page 9–1) is arranged

as a table containing 16 rows and five columns. Each row designates one of
the 16 input or output locations, such as “

In 1

” and “

Out 6

.” (When an

RS–170 monitor is used, the

Discrete I/O Editor

panel appears in two

“pages,” each with eight rows.

Just above the top row are the column headings, which are described briefly
as follows:

In/Out –– This column indicates whether a row pertains to a discrete
input or a discrete output.

Signal Name –– This column identifies the names of the signals assigned
to each input and output.

Time ––

Time

applies to input and output signals. Use this field to

change parameters for the corresponding input or output signal.

For input signals, the default time is “

5.

” This means that a trigger input

signal must occur at least 5 milliseconds after the previous trigger signal
in order to be recognized.

For output signals, the default time is “

25.

” This means that an output

signal will be active for 25 milliseconds, after which it will return to its
inactive state.

+/– –– This field applies to the polarity of input and output signals. Use
this field to change parameters for the corresponding input or output
signal. Picking this field toggles it from “

Pos

” to “

Neg

,” or vice versa.

For inputs, the default edge polarity is “

Pos

” (positive). This means that

the CVIM2 system will respond to the positive–going edge of a trigger
signal.

For outputs, the default output signal state is “

Pos

” (non–inverted). This

means that the signal will be active high and inactive low.

Force –– Use this field to alter the state of the outputs. The default state is

No

.” In this state, the outputs follow the signals that are assigned to them

(such as “fail,” “warn,” “ACK,” and so on).

However, you can force an output to a continuously active state, or to a
continuously inactive state. Thus, “

On

” causes the output to be

continuously active, while “

Off

” causes the output to be continuously

inactive.

Delay –– Use this field (in conjunction with the

pulse input signal and an

inspection results output signal) to select the number of input pulses that
the CVIM2 system must count before making the inspection results
available to the user’s process equipment for “parts tracking” purposes.

At the bottom of the panel in Figure 9.1 are four buttons, whose functions are
described briefly as follows:

Done –– The

button saves the currently selected discrete I/O

selections for this panel, then exits the I/O panel and returns to the main
menu bar or other origin.
