• The CDM-570AL consumes only 29 Watts (typical, without optional Packet Processor, CnC,

BUC, or LNB).

• The CDM-570A/570AL may be equipped with the optional High Performance Packet

Processor

card for 10/100 BaseT Ethernet operation that, in addition to providing Layers 3-5

functionality, incorporates a number of key features for Wide Area Network (WAN)

bandwidth optimization: very low overhead High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC); Header

and Payload Compression; Advanced Quality of Service (QoS); and Triple DES (3XDES)

Encryption.

• The CDM-570A/570AL offers variable data rates from 2.4 kbps to 10.239 Mbps, in BPSK,

QPSK, Offset QPSK, 8-PSK, 8-QAM, and 16-QAM modes.

• The CDM-570A/570AL provides, as Forward Error Correction (FEC) options: Viterbi,

concatenated Reed-Solomon (R-S), Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM), Turbo Product Coding

(TPC, IESS-315 compliant), ULL (Ultra Low Latency), and VersaFEC

®

(a short-block, low

latency Low-density Parity Check Coding (LDPC)).

• The CDM-570A/570AL provides a full range of built-in interface types, including G.703 T1

and E1 and, when the modem is equipped with the optional Packet Processor, Ethernet.

• The CDM-570A/570AL is compact – it is 1RU high, with a depth of 16 inches for the

CDM-570AL, 11 inches for the CDMR-570AL Reduced Chassis Depth unit, and 13.13 inches

for the CDM-570A.

• The CDM-570A/570AL features a front panel vacuum fluorescent display (VFD), and six-

button keypad for local monitor and control (M&C).

• The CDM-570A/570AL features an integrated 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface for network-

based remote product M&C – including SNMP, HTTP (non-secure Web server), and Telnet.

• The CDM-570AL supports external Block Up Converters (BUCs) and Low-Noise Block Down

Converters (LNBs). An optional BUC power supply, either 90 Watts or 150 Watts @ 50°C,

may be installed internally. 10 MHz reference signals are available to drive both BUC and

LNB. LNB power and Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) for ‘smart’ BUCs is standard.

1.1.2 Functional Description

The modem has two fundamentally different types of interface – IF and data:

• The IF interface provides a bidirectional link with the satellite via the uplink and downlink

equipment.

• The data interface is a bidirectional path that connects the modem (assumed to be the DCE)

to the customer’s equipment (assumed to be the DTE).
