Local ONLY Mode limits modem M&C access only through the ‘10/100 Ethernet | M&C 100’ (Dedicated
Management) port. It will not allow modem M&C access over the WAN interface (i.e., the ‘10/100
Ethernet | Traffic 100’ port).
As shown in Figure Q-5, Local ONLY Mode:
• Allows local modem M&C access only through the local modem’s ‘10/100 Ethernet | M&C 100’
(Dedicated Management) port:
o 1a. Dedicated Management permits User PC M&C access to the local modem ‘10/100 Ethernet |
M&C 100’ port.
o 1b. The local modem accepts M&C communication from the User PC and responds accordingly.
• Does not allow M&C access to the local modem through the ‘10/100 Ethernet | Traffic 100’ port.
• Does not allow M&C access to the distant-end modem over the WAN:
o 2. Packets transmitted via Dedicated Management Port to the distant-end modem will be
dropped by the local modem.
• Does not allow M&C access to the local modem from the distant-end modem, whether or not either
modem is in Dedicated Management mode:
o 3. Packets received, by the local modem (intended for local modem M&C access), from the
distant-end modem will be dropped.
