D.1.2.2.1 Remote Software/Firmware Upgrade via FTP

The Packet Processor uses ‘flash memory’ technology internally. This simplifies firmware

updating, and updates can be obtained over the Internet or through e-mail from Comtecgh EF

Data Product Support. New firmware can be uploaded by FTP to the Packet Processor from a

user-supplied PC without opening the unit or having to be in the same physical location.

D.1.2.2.2 Configuration Backup and Restore via FTP

All Base Modem and Packet Processor configuration parameters are stored in a simple text file

named “param1”. This parameter file can easily be retrieved locally or remotely by FTP. The file

can then be used to quickly configure a replacement modem if needed.

Packet Processor configuration file – The “param1” file can be modified with a text editor (e.g.,

WordPad). After downloading this file from the CDM-570A/570AL-IP Modem to the User PC,

edit the desired configuration settings and save the file under a name that identifies the

modem’s network role (e.g., HUB570A_param1.txt).

Do these steps:

1.

Once you verify User PC-to-Modem communications, you may use Command-line to

transfer (FTP) the configuration file from the CDM-570A/570AL-IP to the User PC:

a)

Type "ftp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" (where ‘xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx’ is the CDM-570A/570AL-IP Ethernet

Traffic/Management IP Address).
