Q–2

Q.2 Dedicated Management Port – Description

Dedicated Management Port operation must be enabled at both ends of the network in

order to work properly!

Figure Q-2. CDM-570A/570AL Dedicated Management Port Operation

Figure Q-2

shows the local and distant-end (remote) networks with Dedicated Management

Port operation enabled. As shown here, the modem on the local M&C network can access both

local and distant-end modem M&C without compromise by packet mixing from the Ethernet

traffic network.

Similarly, packets from the traffic network can only be routed or bridged to the remote end

without compromising packet mix from the management network.

Q.2.1

Configure Dedicated Management Port

By default, Dedicated Management Port operation is disabled. You may enable or disable

Dedicated Management Port operation only by using the Serial Command Line Interface (CLI).

All other configuration parameters associated with enabled Dedicated Management Port

operation are available through the other available M&C interfaces.

1)

The configuration instructions and examples that follow address modem M&C

via the CDM-570A/570AL Serial CLI. See your CDM-570A/570AL Installation and

Operation Manual (CEFD P/N MN-CDM570A) for detailed instructions on using

the CLI and other M&C interfaces.

2)

Make sure that you save any parameter changes before you access a different

CLI screen. Press S to “Save Parameters to permanent storage” otherwise

your changes will be lost.

As shown in Figure Q-3,

the Ethernet Interface page appearance differs depending on the active

Working Mode – Managed Switch Mode (see Sect. Q.3) versus Router Mode (see Sect. Q.4). Do

these steps:

1.

From the Serial CLI Main Menu, press ‘I’ to open the Interface Configuration menu.

2.

On the Interface Configuration menu, press ‘E’ to open the Ethernet Configuration menu.
