System Features

WCC III - MCD

The acronym WCC III - MCD stands for the WattMaster Controls
Center III (Version 3) - Master Communications Device, and is
referred to throughout this manual as the WCC III - MCD.

The WCC III - MCD is an Internet appliance that was developed
by WattMaster Controls and is an industrial-rated computer that
is running the Windows

®

XP operating system or Linux. The

WCC III - MCD provides for multiple users an access point for
the various different types of WCC III operator programs and/or
the tenant end-user program to connect to for remote monitoring
and changing of various control setpoints. There is a program that
is always running on the WCC III - MCD called BackTask.exe.
This BackTask.exe program handles all of the WCC III system
functions. These BackTask.exe functions include, but are not
limited to, the following items:

A MCOMM RS-485 data communications server

Internet access server

Email Server

Alarm determination

A multiple event processor and scheduler

See Section 12 for specifi c use and application of the BackTask.
exe program.

See Section 13 for specifi c use and application of the WCC III -
MCD.

For the WCC III - MCD to be completely functional, the WCC
III - MCD is to be connected to the Internet for user access, remote
alarming via Email.

The WCC III - MCD is capable of communicating with up to 239
SAT III Controllers. The WCC III - MCD considers each SAT
3C or SAT 3P as 8 controllers and each SAT 3D or SAT 3F as 4
controllers. The equivalent number of satellite controllers must be
under 239.

A system with 239 satellite controllers is capable of handling up
to 11472 points, with a point being defi ned as a hard-wired input
or output.

NOTE:

The WCC III - MCD is dedicated to the WCC III

system and cannot be used for other functions. The use of
hardware accessories or software programs with the WCC
III - MCD that are not specifi cally approved in writing by
WattMaster Controls, Inc. will void the warranty on the WCC
III system. The use of software other than that furnished
with the WCC III system may result in system malfunction.
WattMaster Controls, Inc. is not responsible for a system
failure so generated.

For the WCC III - MCD to be completely functional, the WCC
III - MCD is to be connected to the internet for user access, remote
e-mailing of alarms, WattMaster Controls program updates,
WattMaster Controls programming, or troubleshooting assistance.

It is possible to use a network crossover cable to connect to a single
WCC III operator console for user access only. This is not the
recommended connection method due to lack of remote e-mailing
of alarms, WattMaster Controls program updates, WattMaster
Controls programming or factory troubleshooting assistance.

NOTICE:

As of September 1, 2009 all WCC III - MCDs

will be only be shipped with the Linux operating system
installed. Older Windows XP based WCC III - MCDs should
be upgraded for any future support issues from WattMaster.
The Windows XP operating system is at the end of long term
support with Microsoft. Microsoft’s main issues are with
continuous updates, and the multitude of viruses that are

written for Windows XP are also of concern.
