3  Programming the Analyzer
IEEE 488.2 Common Commands

*RST (Remote Command Only)

*RST is equivalent to :SYST:PRES;:INIT:CONT OFF, which is a Mode Preset in the Single
measurement state. This remote command is preferred over Mode Preset remote command -
:SYST:PRES, as optimal remote programming occurs with the instrument in the single
measurement state.

Remote Command

*RST

Example

*RST

Notes

Sequential

Clears all pending OPC bits and the Status Byte is set to 0.

Couplings

A *RST will cause the currently running measurement to be aborted and cause the default
measurement to be active. *RST gets the mode to a consistent state with all of the default
couplings set.

Backwards Compatibility
Notes

In legacy analyzers *RST did not set the analyzer to Single, but in the X-Series it does, for
compliance with the IEEE 488.2 specification.

In the X-Series, *RST does not do a *CLS (clear the status bits and the error queue). In legacy
analyzers, *RST used to do the equivalent of SYSTem:PRESet, *CLS and INITiate:CONTinuous
OFF. But to be 488.2 compliant, *RST in the X-Series does not do a *CLS.

Save Instrument State

This command saves the current instrument state and mode to the specified instrument memory
register.

Remote Command

*SAV <register #>

Example

*SAV 9 Saves the instrument state in register 9.

Notes

Registers 0 through 6 are accessible from the front panel in menu keys for Save Registers.
