Guaranteed Bandwidth
The InBand Bandwidth Reservation ensures that the remote is always guaran-
teed bandwidth up to the rate that is specified, the committed information rate
(CIR). Beyond that, the remote will only be granted additional bandwidth when
it is available. This feature assures that, at minimum, all requests for SCPC
bandwidth up to the CIR will be granted.
Setting a rate in the remote properties Reservations dialog (figure 6-38) will
reserve a segment of bandwidth for the remote ensuring that, at last resort (no
additional bandwidth available), the remote will be dropped to the rate specified
here—its CIR—until excess bandwidth is once again available to be allocated.
