Protection - Starts per Time Interval (66)

The 66 protection element blocks the motor from starting when the number of starts per time interval has
been exceeded. The motor manufacturer data for this example is 3 starts in 45 minutes. Enable the 66
element, set the time interval to 45 minutes, and set the number of starts to 3 as shown in Figure 365.

Protection - Restart Inhibit

Thermal capacity inhibit is a motor protection lockout function that protects the motor from starting until
the percent thermal capacity falls to an appropriate level. The motor manufacturer data indicates that the
motor can perform three consecutive starts from ambient. From a cold motor, since four starts are not
available, a start takes more than 25 percent of the thermal capacity and less than 33 percent. A running
thermal capacity of 10 percent was calculated using Equation 42. Two starts are available from running.
Since three starts are not available, a start takes more than 30 percent of the thermal capacity and less
than 45 percent. The Thermal Capacity Inhibit is set to 33 percent in this example. See Figure 366.

Additionally, inhibits for Time Between Starts and Restart Delay can be set. These are left at the default
setting of 0 (disabled) in this example.
