Running Cool Time Constant - This setting defines the cooling rate of the motor when the 49TC
element is not picked up and the motor is running. Set the Running Cool Time Constant to 60 minutes
per the motor manufacturer data.

Stopped Cool Time Constant - This setting defines the cooling rate of the motor when the 49TC
element is not picked up and the motor is stopped. Set the Stopped Cool Time Constant to 90
minutes per the motor manufacturer data. Typically, it takes a motor 5 time constants to cool once
stopped. Additionally, the ratio between the stopped time constant and the running time constant is
approximately 2 to 1.

Hot Safe Stall Time - This setting defines the time that the motor is allowed to be in a stalled hot
condition. Motor damage occurs after this time expires. Set the Hot Safe Stall Time to 8.5 seconds
per the motor manufacturer data.

Cold Safe Stall Time - This setting defines the time that the motor is allowed to be in a stalled cold
condition. Motor damage occurs after this time expires. Set the Cold Safe Stall Time to 10.7 seconds
per the motor manufacturer data.

RTD Bias Curve

The RTD bias curve includes a minimum of three points and a maximum of 10 points. Three typical points
are defined at Minimum RTD Bias Temperature, Center RTD Bias Temperature, and Maximum RTD Bias
Temperature. The BE1-11m can use the standard 3-point biasing, and you can add as many as 40
biasing points for better thermal modeling and protection at high-temperature operation.

3-Point Method

Set the Minimum RTD Bias Temperature (point 1) at ambient (40

°C) and 0 percent thermal capacity as

shown in Figure 379.

Figure 379. Protection, Thermal, RTD Bias Curve Screen

Set the Center RTD Bias Temperature (point 2) to the motor hot running temperature. Recall from the
motor manufacturer data that the insulation is class F and the manufacturer allows an 80

°C stator

temperature rise. Allow for a 10 percent overage for hot spots. Refer to the Center RTD Bias Temperature
Equation 61.
