3.9 cipher detect

To set the password strength, use the cipher detect command in global configuration mode.


Command Syntax

cipher detect {strong | normal | none}

strong

The highest strength, letters, digits, and other characters must be included.

normal

The normal strength, letters, and digits must be included.

none

The lowest strength, no detection of password strength is performed.


Default

The default password strength is none.


Command Mode

Global configuration


Usage

When the password strength is set to normal, or strong, the password which does not meet he
requirement will be denied.


Examples

In the following example, the cipher detect command set the strength to strong.
Switch(config)# cipher detect strong
Switch(config)# username 123 password 123abc
Strong cipher MUST contain digital, normal character and special character

3.10 enable password

To set a local password to control access to various privilege levels, use the enable password
command in global configuration mode. To remove the password requirement, use the no form of this
command.
