User Guidelines

The priority value must be a multiple of 16.

Example

The following example configures the spanning priority on 1/g5 to 96.

console(config)#interface ethernet 1/g5

console(config-if-1/g5)#spanning-tree port-priority 96

spanning-tree priority

Use the spanning-tree priority command in Global Configuration mode to configure the spanning-
tree priority. The priority value is used to determine which bridge is elected as the root bridge. To
reset the default spanning-tree priority use the no form of this command.

Syntax

spanning-tree priority priority

no spanning-tree priority

priority—Priority of the bridge. (Range: 0 - 61440)

Default Configuration

The default bridge priority for IEEE STP is 32768.

User Guidelines

The priority value must be a multiple of 4096.

The switch with the lowest priority is the root of the spanning tree.

Example

The following example configures spanning-tree priority to 12288.

console(config)#spanning-tree priority 12288

spanning-tree root-protection

Use the spanning-tree root-protection command in Interface Configuration mode to enable the
Root protection function on a switch. Use the no form of this command to restore the default
status of the Root protection function.
