Navigating CLI Command Modes

The following table describes how to navigate through the CLI Command Mode hierarchy.

Command Mode

Access Method

Command Prompt

Exit or Access
Previous Mode

User EXEC

The user is
automatically in User
EXEC mode unless the
user is defined as a
privileged user.

logout

Privileged EXEC

Use the enable
command to enter into
this mode. This mode
is password protected.

console#

Use the exit
command, or press
<Ctrl>+<Z> to
return to the User
EXEC mode.

Global Configuration

From Privileged EXEC
mode, use the
configure command.

console(config)#

Use the exit
command, or press
<Ctrl>+<Z> to
return to the
Privileged EXEC
mode.

Line Interface

From Global
Configuration mode,
use the line command.

To exit to Global
